The Moon shone with silvery light,
Up above the earth.
But she was lonely with only silent stars
To share her mirth.
Night was cold to daylight’s warmth.
In Sun’s time she was a shadow.
And so she went to ask the Sun
To share his daily glow.

The Sun was bored with daytime chatter,
Nonsense filled his ears.
He longed for silent solitude,
Where shadows hid Earth’s tears.
And so when silver Moon
Offered up her place,
He gladly took her gentle light
To cool over his face.

So Moon waxed and waned,
And shadows grew and fell upon the land.
She shared her joys and glowed bright
At the friendliness of man.
But soon she saw man’s cruelty,
And began to hide her face.
At night time all was hidden,
Only light showed such disgrace.

Soon she grew weary
Of all the havoc wrought by men
And missed the nightly glimmer
Of the stars, her kin.
She longed for their silent laughter,
Their cold and cool delight,
And she was washed out and drained,
By the Sun’s yellow light.

And so rain fell upon the earth,
Moon’s own milky tears.
She poured down loss and sorrow,
She poured down endless fears.
Earth grew angry at the flood,
And showed her distaste.
Poor Moon was left behind the clouds,
To wallow and to waste.

At night Sun was a gleaming force,
His silver face shone bright.
The moths all danced giddily,
Carried on the breezy night.
Sun joined in the nightly music,
The sweet and hidden sounds,
And the stars twinkling their laughter
As they made their seasonal rounds.

But soon Sun saw the sneaking
Of the thieving in the night,
And he mourned for the daytime victims
Upon whom fell this blight.
He could not pale his silver glow,
He could not hide away,
And so he grew cold and angry,
And he missed the joy of day.

The whispering songs of night grew cruel,
Tormenting once-bold Sun,
And the stars did not accept him
As their shining one.
Mars’s warlike glow to Sun
Was not at all kind,
And Venus dared to scoff at him,
Love no longer blind.

And so one dusky dawn they met,
The Sun and Moon, that is.
Moon expressed her hidden fears,
And Sun confessed his.
The Lady shed the yellow glow,
And took back her silver light.
The Lord beamed with his golden crown,
No longer in the night.

Both had learned to love their lots,
And happily returned
To their separate jobs and worlds,
Those for which they’d yearned.
The Sun took up his burning post,
To watch over the lands.
The Moon settled in the night,
Healing day’s burns with silver hands.

Every morn the Sun came up,
Rested, proud, and bright,
And every dusk he went to rest
As Moon watched with silvery sight.
The world fell quiet, singing songs,
And the switch became a lore.
Memories of chaos faded away,
And Earth was calm once more.

Amazing. I've read a lot of poems, I've written a lot of poems. This is the best poem I've ever read, I am absolutely shocked. Incredible, truly! Very bright idea for a poem, and very fell composed. You could become famous doing this one day.

Wow... I think I'm blushing now... Thank you so much for that. I'm glad you like it and I really... don't know how to react at such kind words.

I suppose a 'thank you' and 'I hope to live up to all of that' will have to suffice, eh?

Aww! I was just really shocked. I love poetry, but this was kind of staggering. Yes, a thank you would suffice, and you are living up to all of that *smiles*

This is great. I have been somewhat turned off of poems right now because of other ones I've seen on dA, but your poems shows such skill, I might just have to get back into reading poetry.
